“We both swiped right. Seriously… we met on Tinder! Our first date we went to a Smallpools concert at Slim’s in San Francisco.  When Smallpools came to Oakland in October 2017, Jarrod took that opportunity to contact the band months ahead of time, and get their blessing to propose on stage during their show at the Fox Theatre.  Not a bad way to start off an engagement!  Throughout our relationship, music has been a central part of our lives. When we thought about what was important while planning our wedding, music was at the top of the list… colour was the next. Colour has always brought me such joy, and after attending multiple years of Burning Man together, we knew what our wedding would be like… colour, lights, and awesome music.” – Tanya

Devon and Brad first met in an elevator ride in the beautiful Sands Regency Casino Hotel in Reno, Nevada, where they were both in town for a random volleyball tournament featuring mens and womens teams from all over the region. Silence filled most of the ride as their chatty friends planned out the weekend of fun and competition. But after a full day of volleyball, the two teams were determined to get together for a hotel party. It was later that evening when one of Devon’s teammates “accidentally” bumped Devon into Brad and they quickly realized there was a spark between them. The night was coming to a disappointing end as Brad and Devon went their separate ways. Brad realized he had made the serious mistake of not asking for Devon’s number so he worked up the courage to send that ever fateful “Hey what’s up” Facebook message and friend request later that night. Thirty seven paragraph-long exchanges later, they scheduled a first date…which Brad then needed to reschedule. Devon agreed to the reschedule, but when the day arrived, she almost canceled. Thankfully, one of her sisters was there to encourage and push her along to help this guy park on a busy San Francisco street and the first date officially happened.

Fast forward many Giants games, Palmer Chiropractic school events, sailing excursions, and puppy raising, the two finally decided that Canadians and Americans can fall for each other and live happily ever after.

From the Bride:

“Jeff proposed at one of our favorite places, Hualalai on the Big Island of Hawaii. We go every year with his family for “Festive,” the week between Christmas and New Years, and he popped the question the first night of the trip! After sitting on a plane for 6 hours, we decided to go for a walk before dinner, and that’s when he proposed. We walked to a special look out point called “The Wedding Tree” and he got down on one knee in the sand. He told me he’s known he wanted to marry me since our first date, and the rest is a blur! ?After I said Yes! a golf cart pulled up with champagne and his whole family (15 of them!) emerged from the golf path to toast and join us in celebrating. We spent the rest of the trip dreaming of where to get married and talking about what type of puppy we wanted to add to our growing family! When we got back, Jeff surprised me with news that he’d gotten us a little golden retriever, and let me name him Pablo Picasso!”
